FREE Courses in the Adult Learning Centre

The first of its kind to come to south Islington, the adult learning centre can help you improve your English as well as literacy, maths and IT skills. Also on offer – courses and support for improving your chances of getting work. Held in a comfortable and supportive setting, this FREE service will help you find your feet and equip you with the appropriate skills for improving your job prospects.

Who are our courses for?

These courses are open to Islington residents (or live within one mile of the learning centre), who are 19 years of age over, unemployed or receiving income related benefits.

All our courses are aimed at people who do not yet have their first full Level 2 qualification e.g. 5 GCSEs grades A*- C or an NVQ Level 2. There are some exceptions to this.

What sort of courses do we offer?

• Introduction to word processing and internet

• ESOL – English for Speakers of Other Languages

• Reading, writing, spelling and maths

• Confidence building

• Improving skills for paid and voluntary work

• Family learning e.g. helping your children with their school work

You can learn in a supportive and comfortable setting and will receive plenty of support from tutors who are qualified, skilled and experienced to help you to reach your goals. You will have the opportunity to gain national qualifications and will receive information, advice and guidance upon finishing your course(s) about other learning opportunities in the area or about paid and/ or voluntary work.

Opening times

Monday to Friday 9.30am-4.30pm. The best time to drop in and speak to an advisor is during study support sessions on Tuesdays, 3pm-5pm and Fridays, 10am-1pm. Entrance is on Corporation Row.
